reading GMAT scores?

How are scores in parenthesis supposed to be interpreted- 730(Q47, V45)?
I understand that they reflect how many we got right. But are they easily calculated or helpful in getting to understanding your performance?

To interpret the scores in the parentheses, you need to figure out the percentiles they correspond to... and to find the percentiles, they'll either be on the chart you got back for the actual test, or on a table in the back of an OG book.

These scores help you understand your performance in the sense that they can help you determine how well you did on the test (the higher the score, the better), but they don't necessarily tell you how many questions you got right.
