The Securities Exchange Commission requires that a publicly traded company disclose to their shareholders any inconsistencies in audited financial statements.

(A) that a publicly traded company disclose to their shareholders any inconsistencies in audited financial statements
(B) that a publicly traded company disclose to their shareholders any inconsistencies in an audited financial statement
(C) a publicly traded company to disclose to its shareholders any inconsistencies in audited financial statements
(D) that a publicly traded company disclose it to shareholders if audited financial statements have any inconsistencies
(E) a publicly traded company that it should disclose to its shareholders any inconsistencies in audited financial statements

OA
C. Isn't this subjunctive mood? what is wrong with D other than possessive pronoun?
what does 'it' refer to?in D?
there is a lot of difference in 'it' and 'its' and hence the meaning changes drastically.
There is no referrant for 'it' in D at all.

require, order, ask, advice, instruct

These verbs can use the subjunctive mood after THAT or an object and an infinitive

require THAT something HAPPEN
require somebody to do something

are both acceptable

@Fibbo, while solving this question I thought 'it' refers to statements. But now I understand how dumb I was. Got 11 correct out of 16 :( because of such silly mistakes. Thanks for figuring out the mistake

@Kevin - thanks, it helped

My pick is C.
A and B are wrong for usage of their
D - we need its here not it.
E - is wordy and wrong construction that it should disclose to its

Why is there no ambiguity about usage of 'its' in C ?

Can't we take that it can refer to either of the preceeding pronouns?
