Its B for me. Whats the OA?

My reasoning is as follows. All other choices refer to anomalies (plural) and use the verb (was). It should be either (were) or a singular subject should be used.

It was anomalies in the orbit of Uranus that led to the discovery of Neptune.
(A) It was anomalies in the orbit of Uranus that
(B) It was the orbit of Uranus showing anomalies that
(C) They were anomalies in the orbit of Uranus that
(D) The orbit of Uranus being anomalous was what
(E) The anomalies in the orbit of Uranus was what

IMO A
Nothing is wrong with answer choice A. Don't get confused with the word IT that it must have an antecedent here.Antecedent for It is not required here.

B. It was the orbit of Uranus showing anomalies that.. Changes the meaning of original sentence to some extent.
Original sentence doesn't say 'That the orbit was showing some anomalies' or as such.

C. They were ? who were..

D. Being -- A red flag.. Changes meaning too..

E. Subject verb disagreement : Anomalies .... was

My pick is A. There is nothing wrong with the sentence.

B - is wrong ..it was anomalies that led to to the discovery not the orbit
C - They were..wrong construction
D - same as B
E - wrong and awkward constuction ..that is required here...
