"None of"

Hi,

Is "none of the students" followed by a plural or singular verb form?

In MGMAT guide it says that I should look at the noun object to determine the number of the subject but in BTGMAT flashcards it says and examples that "none of..." is always singular.

As Ron said, it hasn't been tested and probably won't be tested, but the rule is to use the noun in the prepositional phrase.

Correct: None of the desserts are appealing

vs

Incorrect: None of the desserts is appealing.
