On What Should I Focus?

by Jsands » Fri Sep 05, 2008 5:38 am
Ok, my goal is to just break 600 which has eluded me several times. I have 1 week until my test. I've been at 590 on Manhattan tests and will take a GMATPrep test tomorrow.

Question, I am weak at probability & permutations. Do I need to strengthen these areas to break 600 or can I get away w/ skipping these problems? Are there going to be too many of these problems in the 600 bucket to skip? My thinking is that I should focus on my strengthens. Please advise. Help me out y'all....

You're highly unlikely to get more than 1 or 2 permutation/combination questions if you're scoring in the 500s or even the low 600s. My advice is to focus on more fundamental skills such as working with equations, knowing your geometry rules, knowing your grammar rules (for SC), etc. These skills are more applicable to a broader range of problems.

That said, it would be good if you had at least a basic understanding of permutations and combinations so that if you get an easier question, you'll be able to do it. I wouldn't worry about it if you somehow are thrown a very difficult perm/combo question.
