You should think of assumption questions as a subset of strengthen questions where a premise must be true. Also, premise + assumption = conclusion

IMO the difference is that in Strengthening any supporting evidence may be correct (the trick is around what supports the point), but in Assumption you need the missing step between the given evidence and the conclusion (the trick is around what is essential to reach the conclusion).
