by silverlining » Mon Jul 16, 2012 5:37 pm
hi ,

i have been preparing for gmat , for a month or so ..
i went thru all the mgmat strategy guides , as its been 10 yrs since i passed out school .
so wanted to get back with the basics ,so bought all the 9 guides , and went thru them ....
and then i gave a diagnostic test from og13 ,i was shattered  !!! and here goes my scores ...

problem solving - 18/24
data sufficiency - 16/24

reading comprehension - 15/17
critical reasoning - 12/17
sentence correction - 14/18

can somebody plz tell me how to improve !!!
the scores are in a fine line between above average and average,
i took these tests without any stress or anxiety and off all ,
on an average i spent 3 mins to 4 mins per question ...

so on the test day , the scenario is going to be totally different ..

can somebody please tell me as how can i improve my scores .

thanks in advance !!

Diagnostic test has some very difficult questions. The questions are framed such that even a 700 level scorer finds the set of questions to be of moderate difficultly. We cannot deduce much about your scores with that.

Go to mba.com
Download GMATPrep software.
Browse through the IR sample questions or use the OG 13 itself.
Take a full test with strict conditions as in AWA/IR + 8 min break + quant + 8 min break + verbal

Only with that baseline score you can move ahead depending on the individual split up scores, your strong and weak section/topics and your target score.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

I agree, you should definitely take the GMATPrep test. I also think you should take a MGMAT test. Since you already have the MGMAT books, you will get free access to 6 MGMAT CATs. You are supposed to take the OG diagnostic untimed, so it's ok that you spent 3-4 mins per question, but as your studying progresses, it's important that you work on your time management. The MGMAT CATs will provide detailed reports on your time management and item difficulty levels.
