How long did the 1000mile journey with 10 stopovers take Mr. X

1.) The i th stopover lasted i^2 minutes.

2.) The average speed between any two stopovers was 66 miles per hour.

Stem asks us to find "time taken"

st 1 : Does NOT give Speed..Insufficient

St 2: I am not able to figure out the meaning of the st2.

Case 1: Stopover 1 & Stopover 2 : Avg speed 66 miles per hour.

case 2: Stopover 1 & Stopover 10 : Avg speed 66 miles per hour.

Is that so???

Yeah, that's right Govi. Basically, (2) is telling us that the speed is constant. From (1) we can compute the total time at all of the stops. From (2), we can compute total time taken while travelling. The sum of those 2 would give us total time overall.

How to tackle such kind of questions if they appear on the GMAT?

combine 1 and 2

you get the total time spend in covering 1000 miles : total time spent in stopovers + total time spent on the road.
ANS : C

Agree with @indiantiger

The total journey time consists of total stopover time + total on the road time

Statement 1 can be used to find the total stopover time
Statement 2 can be used to find the total on the road time (distance between consecutive stop overs = 1000/10 and covered at 66mph)

Hence using both the statement , we can find the total time
