First try an even number, say 2 and see which answer choices you can eliminate (i.e., see which answer choices yield an even number)

When we plug in 2 for x, we can eliminate B, C and D, which leaves us with A or E.

Now try another value for x. How about x=4.

When we replace x with 4, we see that A is an even number, which leaves us with E (which yields an odd number).

Hey Thanks Brent.... I was just checking everytime against single even value for X. That was creating the confusion.
