I got this question correct, despite the fact that I did not like the way that any of the sentences sounded. I relied on verb tense and idioms to get me through this one. Any suggestions or thoughts regarding the quick elimination of some of the answer choices in this problem?


Freedman's survey showed that people living in small towns and rural areas consider themselves no happier than do people living in big cities.

a. no happier than do people living
b. not any happier than do people living
c. not any happier than do people who live
d. no happier than are people who are living
e. not as happy as are people who live

I eliminated C and E, because they use "live" while the first part of the sentence uses "people living".
Also I eliminated D because "are living" is not parallel to "people living in small towns consider".
The difference between A and B is only "no" and "not". Although "no" sounds OK to me I think the correct form is "not".
Here is why:
"Please give some examples/explanations about the difference between NO and NOT"

Great question! "no" is a determiner and "not" is an adverb.

Got it?

Hehehe... Don't worry, there's more...

We use determiners with nouns and adverbs with verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.

For example: nobody, no one, no money, no honey!!

not here, not now, not funny
I think the correct answer is B
