GMAT Test in 3 Weeks! Advice needed...

by Purusha » Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:25 pm
Hello All,

This is my first post here. Just joined the forum.

I have been preparing for the GMAT for about a month now and my test is coming up in (slightly less than) 3 weeks!

I took the first MGMAT CAT and got a dismal 620 (Q43/V32). I took the GMAT Prep1 before studying for the test and got a 630 (Q46/V31)!! After a month of studying, my score is worse than it was before! WTF?!

I am really nervous and concerned as my academic credentials are pretty good and I'm aiming for the top B-Schools.

The funny thing is that on the MGMAT Quant section, there were only THREE (3) problems I did NOT know how to solve--guessed on all of them and got 1 right (LOL!). All the other errors were silly mistakes and basic oversights.

The Verbal on the MGMAT CAT was "meh". The SC/CR is really bogging me down.

I have the Princeton Review 1012 Questions GMAT book, OG 11th Edition, Cracking the GMAT (Princeton Review), and bought the 6 MGMAT CATs online.

I am studying everyday (for about 2-3 hours) but I would really appreciate some concrete advice on how to improve my score drastically.

Private tutoring? I'm in the Bay Area so Ron Purewal, with an astounding 800 on the GMAT, seems like the best bet.

HELP!

Well, I haven't heard too many good things about the Princeton books, but it's probably too late to go back and do too many other books. However, it still might be worth buying the Manhattan SC book, which goes in a lot more depth than the Princeton. Otherwise, do tons of practice problems (all of the OG for sure) and make sure you go over all your answers. Reviewing is critical. Finally, doing around 10 practice tests should help a fair amount as well (6 manhattan and GMAT Prep 2x)
