can anybody explain the difference between "while" and "whereas" in detail?

thx a lot
Hi,

As far as i know while is used for time reference and whereas is used for clarification.
Eg:
while: While i was in the hospital, my brother was enjoying in the club. (Specific period)
whereas : Travelling by flight is cheaper whereas, travelling by train is safer (Clarity)

Gmat kiss has given a good explanation here is what I feel :

While can be used to describe about a period of time ...

Whereas can be used to describe situations which are contradictory in nature / in case of a conditional statement.

The only coordinating conjunctions are for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.
