I'm applying to Anderson in round 1.. currently researching whether it has any good finance courses and programs..

Here's my profile

Age: 24
Nationality: Indian
GPA: 3.7
GMAT: 750
TOEFL: 112
Full time work ex: 2 yrs

Essays r out and have started working on them. Anderson asks only 2 required essays of 750 words just like Columbia, and the career goals question is almost the same for both schools.

One unique feature about Anderson is its optional essay "What is something people will find surprising about you?" where you can respond by written essay, audio or video clip - this is one of the first top schools to encourage audio / video responses. Some of the good admissions websites highly recommend taking advantage of the audio or video option if ur good at any of the two.. here is a link to some sample audio clips that caught the admissions committee's fancy last yr. The link is taken from accepted.com's UCLA Anderson page

https://www.anderson.ucla.edu/x24219.xml

Navigate to the page and click on the 'audio animations' link at the bottom to hear these clips. Some of them like the 'punk rocker' r really good :)

Hi everyone,

I applied to UCLA Anderson R1 (Oct. 20th) and received an invitation to interview on Nov. 12th.

My stats:

28 years old
740 GMAT
3.5 GPA from highly ranked public university
Information Science B.S., graduated honors and distinction
6 years WE at pharmaceutical industry, technology and project management
1.5 years WE at healthcare social enterprise
Target industry and function: healthcare entrepreneur

I interviewed in NYC with a recent graduate of UCLA (2007) in the finance industry. I arrived 30 minutes early to the interview and rehearsed my reasons why UCLA and why MBA now. The interview was very structured as he asked me to go over my resume and then talk about a highlight in my career. I felt very prepared to answer all the questions he asked of me, including "What other schools did I apply to and why UCLA over those schools." We went over time about 15 mins but he had to run to another meeting but I was glad he gave me the time to ask more questions at the end.

I look back at the application to UCLA and I'm glad I applied -- I really was worried about the optional question about what would your classmates be surprised to learn about you but I made a 1 min clip of my snowboarding passion and abilities that was really fun to film and edit with music. It reminded me how creative I *used* to be and how much I enjoyed stretching my creative muscles.

At this point, I'm waiting for a few other schools to return results but I'm very excited to have received an invitation to interview at UCLA! The wait for this school is longer than others -- I won't find out until Jan. 12th.

I'm more than happy to talk offline to anyone about my strategies and experiences throughout this process. Good luck everyone!
