Building Bridges

by HeathP » Tue Jun 21, 2011 7:54 am
Hi,

I was wondering if building bridges is a useful tactic in admissions. I would like to attend OSU next Fall and I have began building a rapport with the associate director of the program. He has invited me to come meet the head director of the program and discuss opportunities for a PhD track trough their masters. I'm unaware if the program heads actually do the admissions. Does this bridge building help?

I'm trying to get my name recognized on a stack of applications. What do you think?

Always avail yourself of the opportunity to learn more about a program and make a positive impression.

Accepting the invitation to meet the head director of the program is an easy decision. Indirectly, your application will be stronger because you will have greater familiarity with the program. Directly, if you make a positive impression, the head director might notify the admissions committee which would be favorable to your admissions chances.
