Very difficult to follow for a 5 day working consultant

HI People,
I tried to search in older threads for similar query but was unable to find so am writing this post, Hoping that Brent, or other readers will come to my rescue.
I have started thinking that MBA from ISB India is a crucial programme for me so have started looking around to start preapring for GMAT. I have got some free pdfs and materials from net and have opted for the 60 day study guide from this wonderful site.
But I am facing challenges to follow the programme and so unable to start my prep.
1). I am a consultant and work 5 days, so when I reach home at night after work, it feels that my brain is not ready for any further usage. Unable to wake up in the morning to cope up for the lost time. Hence no time in Weekdays. :(
2)I have lost the motivation to study on weekends to cope up for the lost 5 days and get on the track, hence that is also not working.
3)I am unable to find free videos, ebooks that I can upload on my Blacberry playbook and study after turning my blinders on, coz reading on laptop is always diverting and I dont like keeping lot of physical books.

I would require anyone/all of you to comment on these and help me out.

This is a common problem. What I would recommend is maybe you get up a bit earlier and make prep the first part of your day. Also, you can buy plenty of material for your devices (and in fact the stuff you pay for is usually better than the free stuff anyway).

I suggest that you take an official practice test: https://www.mba.com/the-gmat/download-fr ... tware.aspx

It may be the case that you're already scoring close to (or even above) your target score, in which case the task of preparing for the test may not seem so daunting.

HI Brent,

I have taken the official prep test(results were not that great) already and that only motivated me to study to reach my target score 770. I am an engineer and have done most of the quant in schooling and just need a brush up and polishing. :). Verbal needs revision. But all these require proper attention and time which I am unable to strategise and even if I strategise, unable to execute it. I know that most of the time I suck at implementation. :( I think now you can guide me well after this answer.

Hi Masroor,

Your mindset is very self-defeating, and unless you change this, it will be very hard for you to achieve your goals.

A few quotes:
- My brain is not ready for any further usage
- Unable to wake up in the morning
- No time on weekdays
- Lost motivation to study on weekends
- Unable to find free resources to download
- Reading on laptop is diverting
- Don't like keeping physical books
- Unable to strategise
- Unable to execute
- I suck at implementation

Are you sure you want an MBA? It sounds like you've thought of a lot of reasons to not pursue it. You have no time on weekdays or weekends. Even if you had the time, you require very specific learning resources (free and downloadable), and even if you had those resources, you're suggesting that you're not very good at implementation.

You're not alone, Masroor. A LOT of students become discouraged while preparing for the GMAT. Having said that, you're obviously a very smart person, and I'm sure you'll do fine once you stop looking for reasons to not prepare and start looking for creative ways to overcome the barriers and make it happen, despite the adversity (after all, that's what engineers are great at, right :-))
