Hello everyone

I have been admitted to both IE & HEC MBA prog for 2017 Jan intake. I understand that similar questions have popped on this forum earlier as well, but I believe your inputs would help me a lot.

I am an Indian, commerce background, 4 yrs experience Risk Advisory - FMCG Retail, Middle East. Wish to start post MBA as strategy manager, eventually moving to General Mgmt in the long run - FMCG. Can you please advise which one I should choose:

1. Ok with coming back to Gulf, but would love to have some experience in Europe. I understand Europe is no match for savings in tax free Gulf, but would be happy to work at a not-so-hot place for a change (but not in a job that pays peanuts, some difference is ok).
2. Learning itself is a big factor as well. Want to really come out transformed.
3. I understand IE has had better rankings than HEC for long (in Financial Times at least, where IE forms group A & HEC group B), but how does it all pan out in the job market, with their respective locations, placements & network?

Congratulations on having choices! One way I'd approach this is to look at the recruiting reports for both schools and compare who has stronger relationships with more of your target post MBA firms. I would also visit both and get a feel for where you feel more comfortable- if you can't do that- at least speak to students with similar career interests in both places and compare responses on who is providing more of the support you'd hope to get from an MBA.

Would recommend that you speak to a few current students and alumni of both schools with respect to your goals.

Judging only by post-MBA jobs at this point, though, HEC seems to have an edge over IE.

IE is more established as a school so that explains some of the rankings. However, HEC has gained a lot in the last few years and is definitely a reputable school as well, and I personally hold them in high regard, so would definitely not dismiss them too easily.

But where in Europe do you see yourself after your MBA? If it is in France or neighboring countries to the north, there is no beating HEC as it is definitely the school with the best reputation there, but if you are not sure what country you would like to work in, IE is generally better known with employers in other parts of Europe.
