690 (Q43, V41) - Will retake.

by optimisticsam » Tue Oct 16, 2007 10:16 am
Hello all,

Just wanted to thank everyone for the contributions to this site. They have made a big difference in my prep.

I took the test this morning and got a 690. I got a meager 70th percentile in quant, so I will certainly be retaking.

I know everyone says 690 is good enough for a upper tier school, but my GPA in undergrad was a little low (only 3.3) so I feel the need to get over 700. Plus, 700 was the goal, and I can't settle for not reaching my goal.

Felt bad during the quant section, and knew I totally bombed it.

Felt OK during the verbal, but interestingly enough, didn't get a single Bold Face! My prep for verbal included the scoretop VIP membership, and to be honest, this made a big difference! Their sentence correction examples are spot on and really made the difference in this section!

My plan will be to probably invest in some Manhattan Math Guides, study hard, and retake in 5 weeks. Have to get that 700+!

Good luck to everyone! Remember, if you don't reach your goal, don't settle! It's only $250 bucks to retake, and that isn't a lot if it makes the difference!

Congratulations optimisticsam, 690 IMO is a good enough score, however your quant score is 43, which can be easily pushed up to 49-50, I think if u can be consistent with your Verbal then u have a very good chance to cross the 720-740 mark, Best of luck for ur second attempt.
Regards
Samir

As Samir correctly stated, a 690 is a great score. But you seem committed to retake, so I wish you all the best with your second efforts. I'm sure you'll reach your goal!

i think its a good score to get you into top 20 schools....gr8 score in verbal part...i wish i cud get somewhere nea to it!!!!! :( ....but ur quant score, i think, can be improved to atleast 48...i think one month shld be sufficient to ace in DS....all the best for the 2nd attempt.........
Trying hard!!!

I'm curious...did you re-take?

I have nearly the same stats as you...I got a 690 w/ a 70% quant, 93% verbal. Knew I bombed the math part since the last 2 questions were _really_ easy.

While I could probably get into a top 15 school now, I'm considering waiting until next cycle, so I can show improved grades in some math classes & really have time to work on my essays.

May also re-take since quant seems like it should be easier to improve.

And the long-term difference between a school like Wharton or Kellog vs. a school like Cornell or Michigan seems like it might be worth deferring a year.

Thoughts?
