The supply of oil being finite has become an economical and political consideration of the first magnitude for all modern industrial nations.
(A) The supply of oil being finite has become an economical
(B) The finite supply of oil has become an economical
(C) That the supply of oil is finite has become an economical
(D) The supply of oil being finite has become an economic
(E) That the supply of oil is finite has become an economic


I feel the answer is C , but I dont know why it cant be B ?

economic = related to the economy

We are talking about the later here and so A B C are out.

Between D & E E prevails.

What is the OA?

I also agree with gmat740...OG says "That" is used to introduce subordinate clause....

That cannot be used to introduce main clause...

or there is something that I am missing here ?

@Domnu,
In the example referred "The Sean had a..counterintuitive" , is the subordinate clause and "As Everyone had...squirrel" can be taken as the main clause. IMHO, when we put a Subordinate Clause before the Main Clause, we use a comma /separator between both of them.

In the Option E, I did not find a "." . Also, can we find a clear demarcation between the subordinate and main clause ?. Pls help.

I zeroed onto D & E and chose E as the answer. But I still have the above query.

Hi Senthil,

Can you please tell the source of this question....as per OG-10 and 11...there are no exceptions(as far as I remember) that "that" cannot introduce main clause....

using that to introduce main clause may be perfectly correct in general english....but can someone please clarify what is the case in GMAT land ?
