if xy not equal to 0

is x/y,0?

1. x=-y
2. -x=-(-y)

for some reason i had trouble picking numbers to statement 1 so I tried to rearrange the statement 1 and got x/-y=0 but the og book solution said it x/-y=1.

qa is d

If root x/y=n, what is the value of x?

1. yn = 10
2. y=40 and n = 1/4

both 1 and 2 give the same information and hence the qa is D.

However, when rearranging (for simplicity) root x/y=n to root x=ny, cant satement 1 and 2 be wrong because the negative property of root x. so the answer could be positive value and negative value of each statement? Or is it that roots can only have a postive solution and no negative value?
