879. Two new studies indicate that many people become obese more due to the fact that their bodies burn calories too slowly than overeating.

Is it D ?

"because of" (which means caused by) is preferred over "due to"

Also, we need parallelism here. D and E are parallel but E unnecessarily
uses passive voice.

yes it is D. I had a confusion between D and E and like always I chose the wrong one (E).
