What is the area of triangle BDC?

(1) The area of triangle AED is 16.

(2) The area of triangle DEC is 12

The OA is A but I'm not convinced.
We still need both statements to arrive at a VALUE answer.

Please clarify.

You are right. For determining area of triangle BDC, we need both statements and correct answer is C.
The only way OA can be A is if the question asked "what is the area of BEC?"
