need help - verbal !!

by selfmade » Mon Aug 02, 2010 12:19 pm
I need some expert opinion - basically to understand what Im doing wrong with verbal section. I have started studying just a couple of weeks back and could not do it on daily basis since I work full day and have home responsibilities as well.
I have taken two full length practice tests and scored 570 on both :(((((((( --- Big Worry

Manhatten - Q 43 and V 25
GMATPrep - Q 46 and V 23

I am really evry disappointed with this score and feel depressed.Currently I am using Manhatten SC, OG 12th, Kaplan Premier Guides for my preparation. Can you please guide me on how should I prepare on verbal. I think one of the reason of low scores on verbal is - I cant concentrate much on RC passages and can't crack them easily if the language is tough. Moreover I feel exausted till I reach Verbal section. SC and RC are a big worry for me. Please help

Thanks
Arati

Try reading something from Scientific American (www.sciam.com), nytimes.com, or the economist every day - just to get yourself more comfortable reading well written articles. Without a subscription, you won't be able to read many full articles for the scientific american, but that's okay - GMAT passages aren't as long as full articles anyway. Reading everyday is important to build up your stamina, speed, and comprehension so I can't emphasize enough how important it is to just read. You should vary your reading practice meaning that you should read online newspapers as well as RC passages that actually have questions that go along with them. Also, how many times have you gone through the Manhattan SC book? It's a dense book so you may have to go through it a couple times. Finally, make sure that you're reviewing all the problems that you're not sure of, got wrong, spent too much time on etc.. etc... Reviewing the problems will probably take you longer than actually doing the problems.

Cheers!
