Use of semicolon:

A baby emerges from the darkness of the womb with a rudimentary sense of vision that would be rated about 20/500; an adult with such vision would be deemed legally blind.

Kindly let me know why is 2nd part(an adult with such vision would be deemed legally blind) an independent clause.....the use of such indicates its dependent on 1st part.

An independent clause is a clause that can stand by itself i.e. it contains a subject and a predicate.

e.g. A & B are good friends; they do everything together.
The above is a proper and balanced sentence.
