It's not necessary. If you want to simulate the entire 4 hour test, you can write the essays too. It's better to have the 4 hour experience once or twice, but you need not write it every time.

Generally, I do recommend taking the entire practice test b/c stamina is a big issue. I know a lot of people take a ton of practice tests and thus sometimes skip the essays. I really recommend that you take a practice test only about once every 3 weeks, ideally - and, in that case, do the entire test.
