d) In cooking, small quntities of spices are used, whereas in medicinal usage spices are taken


e) In cooking, the usage of spices is in small quantities,whereas in medicinal usage they are taken

A, B, and C are all out because there is not a proper comparison between the different kind of spices. Immediately after the introductory clause should be the phrase 'spices used in medicine'

E is out because there is no antecedent for 'they'
