Need Some Help Determining Estimated Score on Real Test

Hello,

I am new here and am looking for some help and opinions. I have taken the GMAT once on June 7th and scored a low 410. Before taking it I had taken one GMAT Prep CAT and scored a 430 the night before. Since then I have scored:

Kaplan: 480
GMAT Prep CAT 2: 420
Grockit: 550
Veritas Prep: 550

I am trying to figure out what my actual score will be this time around. I have found the Grockit and Veritas Quant questions to be a lot easier than the GMAT Prep ones. Is this normal? I was also looking at taking a Manhattan and Princeton Review one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

As you probably already know, the official GMATPrep tests are the best predictors of your current skills. When students see that the software contains two practice tests, they assume that they can take each test only once, and if they do take them a second time, the questions will be the same. This is not true. The GMAT is computer adaptive and questions are drawn from a large pool of questions. So, while you may see the occasional duplicate question, the majority of questions will be new to you.

If anyone is interested, I wrote an article for BTG on this topic: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/03/ ... iple-times

Given all of this, I suggest that you retake one of the GMATPrep tests.
Another option is to purchase Exam Pack #1, which has two more practice tests: https://www.mba.com/global/store/store-c ... ack-1.aspx

Cheers,
Brent

Okay I will try that then. I was encouraged by the two scores of 550. Do you think those tests are that far off from the GMAT Prep ones?

Thanks

It's really hard to say, since I haven't taken those tests. What I do know is that the GMATPrep tests are the only practice tests that use official GMAT questions and the official GMAT scoring algorithm.

Does anyone else have any experience with the tests I listed and have a opinion on how close my scores may be to the actual test? Thanks

Hi lsufrontier,

If you can answer a few questions about your practice CATs, then I'll be happy to offer some perspective:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take any of these CATs before (meaning that you took the CAT a second time)?

3) What were your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each of these CATs?

Hi, thanks for helping me.

1) I did not take the writing portion on any of them. I did the IR portion on all except the Grockit.

2) No, each time I took the CAT it was the first time on each site. I have taken Kaplan once, Grockit once, GMAT Prep twice, and Veritas once.

3)
Kaplan: Q=27 V=35
Grockit: Q=37 V=33 (the quant. section on this one seemed a lot easier)
Veritas: Q=28 V=38
GMAT Prep I cannot lookup right now but my quantatvie scores were 13 and 16 I believe and my verbal was between 30-36.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks

Hi lsufrontier,

Since you never completed the Essay section on any of your CATs, you weren't properly prepared to face the entire GMAT. While the essay portion isn't that difficult to complete, it does require time and energy - so your endurance was never properly tested. By skipping sections during practice, you were less tired and more alert, so your scores were likely "inflated." Before you retake the GMAT, you'll have to focus on realistic practice, so that this problem does not happen again.

You mentioned the practice CATs that you took, but what resources (Courses, Books, etc.) have you used during your studies? How long did you study? And what is your goal score?

Thankfully, Business Schools don't care if you take the GMAT more than once, so retesting won't be a big deal.

I am actually taking the GMAT again this Saturday. I only need a 450 to get into the school I am attempting to get into. I was just trying to find out if based on my practice CAT scores if I was in a good range to get above that score. Thanks
