Which one is correct! Please help

by gmatblood » Tue Nov 08, 2011 8:19 am
I. After much deliberation, the judge demanded that the prisoner's parole be revoked following his recent parole violation, and that he be sent to the maximum security prison.

II. After much deliberation, the judge demanded that the prisoner's parole be revoked following his recent parole violation, and be sent to the maximum security prison.

Should be A, since the correct idiom is X and Y. Since X starts with that, so should Y.

What is the OA?

Thanks.

On a second thought, in A, I feel, "he" might create a confusion since "he" might refer to the judge or to the prisoner. Since meaning of the sentence is most important in SC, I think B should be preferred.

So B.

Some expert, please help.

Thanks.

In both, "his" is slightly ambiguous, but given no other options, I would choose A for clarity's sake.

I would say the first one is correct.

I think the first one is correct because the second one is ambiguous. Where it says, "and be sent to the maximum security prison" looks as though it is stating that the prisoner's parole be sent to the maximum security prison.

THe first one clearly writes that HE be sent to the maximum security prison

'He' is ambiguous in both the sentence but in the second sentence it seems as if prisoner's parole is being sent to the prison.

So, with this logic, the better option would be the second sentence.
