by madhur_ahuja » Wed Aug 12, 2009 5:47 am
Although they are less obvious, termites does significantly more damage to homes than branches from trees.

termites does significantly more damage to homes than
termites do the most damage to significant homes than do
the termite does significantly more damage to homes as do
termites do significantly more damage to homes than
termites do significantly more damage to homes than do

In this question, How do we deduce :
Does it mean that termites do more damage to homes than to branches, or does it mean that termites cause more damage to homes than branches do ?

Lets see what the statement is trying to say.
The opening clause is modifier and is containing a plural pronun. Hence C is out.

We need to compare the damage done by termites to damage done by branches.. So A and D is out as well. Between B and E, B is changing the intended meaning by saying "significat home". I'll go with E.

Whats the OA?

A - Wrong - TERMITES is plural
B - Wrong - We're comparing only 2 things. TERMITES and BRANCHES. So, MOST is wrong
C - The non underlined portion says, THEY; So, THE TERMITe is wrong.
D - Comparing TERMITES action and BRANCHES
E - Correct

Also, I think TERMITES to more damage than DO BRANCHES.
