Many analysts have predicted that, just as the growth of democracy has generally followed industrial development in other nations, democratic institutions will soon flourish in China.

1. predicted that, just as the growth of democracy has generally followed industrial development in other nations, democratic institutions will soon flourish

2.predicted, just as democracy has generally grown following other nations' industrial development, that democratic institutions will soon flourish

3.predicted, just as the growth of democracy generally following industrial development in other nations, that democratic institutions will soon be flourishing

4.predicted that, just as democracy has generally grown after other nations' industrial development, that democratic institutions will soon be flourishing

5.been predicting that, just as the general growth of democracy following other nations' industrial development, democratic institutions will soon flourish

OA:A

Though I believe even OA is not good enough answer since the idiom "just as X so Y" is not followed.

I feel A is the answer

Have been predicting is not correct. Then vertical scanning will indicate "will soon flourish" then predicted, and predicted that.
Split is a,b,c and d.

Among them will soon flourish seems to be correct, then growth of democracy=industrial development

My bet is A

I think A is the right answer.
Between 1 and 4, in 4 the meaning is changed.

Hi Sul,

You are correct in the the "just as....so" 2-part construction hasn't been used correctly. You'll notice that all 5 answers use "just as...." but none of them use the word "...so." Thankfully, all 5 answers make the same mistake, so you can essentially ignore it for the purposes of answering this SC.

The bigger picture is that this prompt tells me that whoever wrote this question doesn't actually understand GMAT grammar or might be prone to making mistakes. This error would make me suspicious of other questions that come from this source.
