A higher interest rate is only one of the factors, albeit an important one, that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.

a) that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.
b) that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did earlier in the decade
c) that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did earlier in the decade
d) that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like earlier in the decade
e) that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade

IMO C... it was between A and C because we need keep(S) since interest rate is singular

actaully, it should be keep coz that modifies"factors" and not interest rate.

--> A and C are eliminated

like cannot be used to compare verbs

--> D and E are eliminated

--> B is the correct choice

IMO C
A) keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did
like is wrng we need as

B) keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
sub: sing; verb:pluarl

C) keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
correct

D) keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like earlier wrong comparison
same as B and A

E) keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier
same as B And A

factors is a noun in prepositional phrase and therefore can not be a main sub.....more factors can not keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.

remember it,s a only one of X's type construction
and rule is only One of the + PLURAL NOUN + that/who/ +sing VERB

Some thoughts:
1. Only one of the + Plural Noun +Plural Verb:
=> This eliminates A and C.
In this case, the post of Ron can be used as reference:
Ron says,
"if you have just ONE OF THE + PLURAL NOUN + WHO/THAT + ______, and it's NOT "the only one", THEN "____" MUST be a PLURAL VERB.
zero exceptions.
example:
that's one of the birds that fly over my house at night.
here's the rationale, if you care about reasons: the idea is that there is a whole group of NOUNs (whatever they are) that do ______, and we're singling out one of them.
notice that the RED-COLORED RELATIVE PRONOUN (WHO/THAT) is absolutely crucial here.
if that isn't there - i.e., if "one of the NOUNs" is actually the SUBJECT of the ____ verb - then you take a singular verb instead.
example:
one of the birds flies over the house; the other one flies past it.
--
finally, to complicate things further, THE ONLY ONE OF THE + PLURAL NOUN + WHO/THAT + ______ requires a SINGULAR verb for the "_____".
in this case, only one of the NOUNs actually does whatever "_____" refers to, so we stick with the singular verb.
example:
marina is the only one of the girls who has ever been to india."

2. AS is used to compare two clauses, and Like is used to compare two nouns.
=> This eliminates D and E since they have used "LIKE" to compare two clauses.
Answer is B.

This seems to be a tricky one. The correct answer is B.

Ex

"Mary is one of the girls who ..." - in this construction, the stuff following "who" should refer to the girls
"Mary is the only one of the girls who ..." - in this construction, the stuff following "who" should refer to Mary.

I hope it will clear your doubt.

though i am not expert how i choose the answer

one of the factors will take plural verb hence keeps can not be correct hence A & C out.

here like is not proper word as we are not comparing factors with any other factor we want to give an example only
hence "as" is the proper word.
so D and E out
and left with B which is correct

I think the answer is 'C' the question is to choose between 'like' and 'as'... rest everything is correct.

Can somebody who knows the correct answer reply?
