Let the capacity of the container = X liters
Then 0.30X + 18 = 3X/4
0.30X + 18 = 0.75X
18 = 0.45X
X = 40 liters

The correct answer is B.

We can plug in the answer choices, which represent the capacity of the container.
The correct answer must be a multiple of 4, since the container is 3/4 full after the 18 liters of water is added.
Eliminate C and D.

The added water raises the fullness level by 45% (from 30% to 75%.)
Thus, 18 liters is just a bit less than half the capacity of the container.
Only B is viable:
.45(40) = 18.

The correct answer is B.

first, it was 3/10 full. after adding 18 l it became 3/4 full
it means 3/4-3/10=9/20

9/20x=18

x=40
