A survey of men from age 18 to 30 revealed homosexual experiences in 30 percent of them and they ranged from an isolated incident to a permanent lifestyle.

My feeling about this question is that it isn't representative of the sort of question that you are likely to get in your GMAT, and that you could overlook it. It says something absurd. How can HOMOSEXUAL EXPERIENCES be a PERMANENT LIFESTYLE? Experiences, homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, culinary, aesthetic, esoteric, and whatever else are by definition temporary: an experience cannot be a lifestyle - even though the search for it can.

Option D is the best of the options, because the survey revealed THAT something had happened. The Past Perfect is correct because the experiences in question happened BEFORE the revelation made by the survey. RANGING is correct because it is a present participle used as an adjective to describe the experiences. But the idea into which the option leads is nevertheless nonsensical.
