OG Vs Manhattan GMAT

by mridula » Mon Dec 07, 2009 8:37 am
OK. I have my GMAT on 8th of January. I have been practicing out of OG. I did all the RCs from OG and I get like one in about 20 wrong, which I think is fine performance. I took GMAT Prep 1 and score 93th percentile in Verbal. Most of my RCs were right (maybe i got 1 wrong in total).
But the problem I have is with Manhattan tests. I took two Manhattan tests so far and I got 80% of my RCs wrong. (I see this strikingly different result in CRs too).
Why is my performance so different in these two tests? I took all the tests in the same conditions and I did essays in all the tests.
Should I just ignore Manhattan RCs and CRs and stick to OG material or do you guys think I am doing something wrong here....
:(

OG rCs are pretty easy as compared to Manhattan GMATs...and on real test you will find questions that are similar to questions in Manhattan GMAT...{choices would be very close}...

Use LSAT RC or 700-800 document of manhattan or KAplan 800 for RC ... you will find RC on real exam a piece of cake...

let me know if you need any info or help..

So, the GMAT prep RCs are also not a good indicator of real test?

i found OG rc's extremely Easy .. like you, i had a very hit hit rate on OG rc ...close to 96% ... but when i started Kaplan 800 or Manhattan my accuracy dipped to 60% ... but then i realized OG rcs were easy and i had to develop a strategy to tackle RCs...if you have a strategy in place then RC wont bug you...watever be the source...

on real GMAT Rcs were a bit tough as compared to OG or for that matter GMATprep...

even 50-60 line RC was difficult than 90 line RC of GMAT prep....

I don't know... In my experience, the real RCs were pretty similar to those in the OG and GMATprep. I'd say that if your hit rate is acceptable for the OG and GMATprep, you should be quite confident that you won't have nasty surprises on test day.

Test prep companies have a history of not getting the true style of questions. I haven't had that much experience with MGMAT tests, but from what I remember their RCs were tougher than the official, retired ones. I definitely remember that Kaplan had much harder RCs though, with much longer texts that really got to me.

Is LSAT RC (reading comprehension?) 800 or Kaplan 800 a better RC prep?

just FYI, those downloads are 100% illegal and violate the copyright of both Kaplan and LSAC. If you post links like that you run the risk of being banned from this community.
