coffee

by ketkoag » Mon Apr 20, 2009 5:07 am
Advertisement: The world’s best coffee beans come from Colombia. The more Colombian beans in a blend of coffee, the better the blend, and no company purchases more Colombian beans than Kreemo Coffee, Inc. So it only stands to reason that if you buy a can of Kreemo’s coffee, you’re buying the best blended coffee available today.
The reasoning of the argument in the advertisement is flawed because it overlooks the possibility that
(A) the equipment used by Kreemo to blend and package its coffee is no different from that used by most other coffee producers
(B) not all of Kreemo’s competitors use Colombian coffee beans in the blends of coffee they sell
(C) Kreemo sells more coffee than does any other company
(D) Kreemo’s coffee is the most expensive blended coffee available today
(E) the best unblended coffee is better than the best blended coffee

OA after few posts..

IMO A

the argument says that Kreemo Coffee buys more Colombian beans than the other companies but it does not say thay Kreemo Coffee uses more Colombian beans to make the coffee.

Conslusion : If you buy a can of Kreemo's coffee then only you are buying the best coffee.

Premise: Colombian beans are the world's best coffee beans and Kremo purchases the most amount than any other company.

Now this is the only reasoning used to arrive at conclusion.BUT C is saying that Kremo sells more coffee than any other company which could be another reason for purchasing the most amount of Colombian beans.

and the argument appears shaky. There fore I went with C.

What is the OA?

I also think it's C.

If they purchase more coffee it could be because they sell more coffee, ie more cups of coffee. Though the amount of coffee/cup may be same or less.

A is too far-fetched. The passage doesn't talk about equipment nor does it talk about packaging of the coffee. All we know is that Kreemo buys the most Columbian beans.

My reasoning was different. I guess I'm wrong.

if you buy a can of Kreemo’s coffee, you’re buying the best blended coffee available today and The more Colombian beans in a blend of coffee, the better the blend ---> that Kreemo’s coffee uses more Colombian beans than any other company

I thought that a reason to flaw the argument could be to prove that all the companies use the same amount of Colombian beans because they use the same equipment

IMO C.

Kreemo buys more Columbian Beans doesn't guarantee that "If you are buying Kreemo brand you are buying the best brand". Kreemo brand in general may be selling more cofee than every one else. This is the reason they are buying more columbian beans...

Thanks

Just imagine if Kreemo was 10x larger than the nearest competitor. They could be the largest purchaser of Columbian beans, but still blend it with sawdust

I'm pretty confident that C is correct answer
