Heading to the testing center(will post score)

by Barak » Wed Dec 26, 2007 8:23 am
well, I am set to go take the test in about an hour and a half. I do not feel like I'm going to take the GMAT. I ran a couple of miles this morning and took a nice long shower, so I feel very fresh physically. I don't feel very confident because of a dip in my recent GMAT practice tests, but I will go give it my best shot.

I will update you all right after I am done. Win, lose or draw, I have quite a few suggestions for what I might have done differently as well as what was on my actual exam today. :D

The test did not go very well for me. I missed finishing the verbal on time by a split second. I scored well below my goal. I'll put it in a data sufficiency form for everyone out there. What was Barak's score(B)?

(1) B>600

(2) B<620

A few things occurred that worked against me. First of all, I had lost all confidence going into the test. That said, I did give it my best effort. My quant score was terrible, and I noticed that I never got any very difficult questions. Surely, I made some careless errors then...

I studied a great deal every day, but only put an emphasis on OG problems about a week before the exam. BIG MISTAKE!

I will definitely have to retake the exam in a couple of months from now. I intend to form a strategy formed around doing the OG problems. Hopefully this will help me to study more effectively. At one point I was scoring over 700 on practice exams and literally a few days before this exam I began to burnout. I will document my progress and report it to everyone.

Hey Barak:

I'm sorry to hear about your experience today, but I'm inspired by your determination to get a second crack at the test!

Your strategy to focus on OG in your second-round of prep is excellent. I look forward to seeing you beat this test!

My story is similar to yours. I didn't do that great the first time either(650). I was scoring in the 700's before the first test. I just seemed to be mentally fatigued when I took the test the first time.

I did take it again and got a 740. Took a month off to lear my head and catch up on life. Then studied again for a month. The exam just seemed to flow much better the second time. I seemed more mentally aware and alert.

Most of the people I know who took the test had similar experiences in that they did much better the second time around. So hang in there and do take it again.
Your new strategy sounds exactly like what I did. I did about 50 questions from each section of the OG. However, I did also do the hard bin of the princeton review also. The study cards on this site helped a lot also.
