x^2 + 2x > x^2 + x or is x > 0 1) x ^ odd integer > x ^ even integer the statement seems quite ambiguous because nothing is mentioned here about relation between odd integer and even integer. Though it indicates that x^ odd integer must be a positive number. because x^even integer is always positive...

copies of news paper A = p
copies of news paper B = 100 - P
Total revenue = p + (100 - P)1.25 = 125 - .25 p
as per given conditions

p/(125-.25p)=r/100
=>
r = 100 p/(125 -.25p)
= 400 p /500 -p multiplying 4 in both numerator and denominator

so IMO D

x(x- (5x+6/x) ) = 0. Should have been written as : x(x- {(5x+6)/x)} ) = 0. Now x *(x ^2 -5x -6)/ x = 0 we can simplify it to (x ^2 -5x -6) = 0 which gives soln as x = 6 or -1 basic quadriatic eqn. "Now x *(x ^2 -5x -6)/ x = 0" - How do you get rid of the x outside the parentheses? x(x- {(...

if x is the quantity of water initially in the lake remaining water at the end of year = x - x*2/7 = x*5/7 similarly after end of second year remaning water = x* 5/7 * 5/7 = x* (5/7)^2 so as per question if it happens after n years x *(5/7)^n < x/4 => (5/7)^n < 1/4 here for a fast calculation 5/7 * ...

NeelGandham and GmatMathPro. My bad , really was out of touch from the quant problems for 1 year so missed some basic fundamentals in simple problem earlier. x(x-1) < 0 first need to find out the roots 0 and 1 here .. (considering equality) .. so need to check the sign of expression in following int...

This can be done by simple set rules
Let M is the set of students taking Math class
L is the set of students taking literature

so we have to find out n(M U L)
n(M) = 10
n (L) = 6
n( M ∩ L )= 4
n(M U L )= n(M) + n(L) - n(M ∩ L)
= 10 + 6 - 4
= 12

you might have seen that even BTG forum has those list of idioms.. did u learn them? if yes, did it help you ? We can do all the guess work .. but for a systematic simple approach (without using calculus and cordinate geometry fundas :) ) let x^2-x = y => x^2-x -y =0 now for a quadratic equation ax2+bx+c if Roots are real then b^2-4ac =>0 => 1+4y =>0 -> y>= -1/4 ----- (A) here roots (x) lie between 0 and 1 s...

[spoiler] for me the only question here is what to do with E. to be true, because for me it is not true -2 < a < 11 ------------- (1) 3<b<12 ------------------ (2) so for a consider 2 cases (A) -2< a < 0 in that case reverse the sign to make middle term positive => 0 < -a < 2 remember .. -a is posi...

What is sqrt(x^2-6x+9)+sqrt(2-x)+(x-3) if each term in this expression is well defined ? And just for the future - what does it mean - if each term in expression is well defined ? It means the each term is a real term ... sqrt(x^2-6x+9) is real and also sqrt(2-x) is well defined here .. i.e. it a r...

I agree with you. Normally you don't expect/encounter such calculation based problem in GMAT.

the side of your square is not the radius but equal to diameter of the circle. :)
so you need to divide it by 2
so radius is
(2k/sqrt(2))/2
=k/sqrt(2)
