@Ian, if I use the process of plugging numbers; how can I possibly know that once we reach to 16, the statement won't be sufficient anymore? I tried a few numbers, and they all worked, so I was about to assume that A is sufficient. Also, I did not really understand what they mean by statement 2: Can...

@Ian or @Kevin, can you please explain in detail as I have been confused with the conversation above. This is the official question and the OA for this is B (Gmatprep): If y>=0, what is the value of x? 1) absolute value x-3>=y 2)absoulte value x-3<=-y The way I solve it: 1 is not sufficient as we ha...

@Patrick_GMATFix, I have a question regarding the DS question if you dont mind. I understand why A is sufficient, but why isn't B sufficient? From the given, we can draw the following options: B--------A-----C---------B or B------C-------A Statement B says that A is to the left of B. The only option...

@Stuart Kovinsky,

Shouldn't the questions be: What fraction of the students in the senior class WHO APPLIED TO COLLEGE are male? (for B to be correct, otherwise, we can't determine the ratio of all males). Thanks

@kshin78,

Thanks for your post.I understand up until that statement 1 alone is sufficient, neither is statement B alone; however, I still don't understand why combined, they are sufficient.

From my solving, both c and d can each be either even or odd, then? Thank you

@GMATGuruNY,

What's your intake on this?:) I am still finding it hard to determine when one equation with two variables can be sufficient to figure out the x and y values, vs. when it isn't sufficient. Thank you!!

Why do we need the sign? they're asking if |x| = y - z ?

So if, x=y-z OR x=-y+z, this means that the above statement is true regardless of sign. If one of them is true, then above is true, NO? What's wrong in my thinking? Thanks

Hi @Ian, So as a conclusion to what you were trying to explain above, is there a way where I can know if only ONE combination of x and y is possible for a specific total number, or whether there are MULTIPLE values which are possible? What is the best way to decide on that (if i have one equation wi...
