i think option E tries to say that many of the elderly were taking financial help of their childrens prior to the increase. And any how this increase bears no or little effect for them.

thanks diebeatsthegmat and goyalsau, i tried this way.please correct me if i am wrong. and if right then hope it helps you too. let the tank size be 12. then A+B = 12/(6/5) = 10 per hr B+C = 12/(3/2) = 8 per hr A+C = 12/(2/1) = 6 per hr 10+8+6= 24 Now 2(A+B+C) = 24... equals to 12 per hr So ABC work...

diebeatsthegmat, First i did the same way. But i tried the other way also. like in 5 hrs with 50 miles per hour the car has gone 250 miles.then it takes 1 gallon per 30 miles, so for 250 miles it must have taken 8 gallons (8*30= 240 miles). So its has used 8 gallons out of 12 gallons. thus the ratio...

friends why do we need to reach to 81 ?
simply multiply 9*6= 54
m=54 ... thats even.
so m/2 = 54 / 2 =27

by taking 7^2, 7^3, 7^ 4.......7^n we see that the digits 07,49,43,01,07..... are repeated. Out of the answer choices only 01 appears in the above series so IMO: 3 (C)
