Maybe the Admissions Office will provide contact info for successful applicants who are willing to be contacted. I'm not sure what their policy is on this, though generally speaking the AO is very open and helpful about most things. It's worth a try.

We're in to the second round of applications already. What about trying to contact someone who was a (successful) applicant in the first round to ask what they did and how they handled the essay? They would have gotten some feedback on it.

Getting your preference for HBS in is a good point. There might be ways to show a fit in your resume if you're creative but basically we want HBS because.... its Harvard! Duh.

Its not so much a question of confidence as knowing what's OK to do and what's not. The confidence comes in where you don't want to sound like everyone else but you don't want to trigger any turn-offs either. Its a delicate balance and I think there are rules here.

Where are the samples of these - the video essay and the single essay? YouTube doesn't count for me - I'm looking for something on an official site or that's been vetted by an admissions board.
