Answer is A but what if X is -1/2?
Then X square is 1/4 and greater than x. I think the right answer is C.
Read the statement carefully, it says, x^2 is less than x, this is only possible when x is between 0 and 1 ...

if x is between -1 and 0, then x^2 > x, and hence negates the given condition, so we can safely say using statement 1 that x is between 0 and 1 ..
