It takes Mia 5 hours, reading at a constant rate, to read a certain book containing 200 pages of reading material. If Samantha reads at twice this rate, how many MINUTES would it take her to read 100 pages of reading material?

I am drawring the biggest blank...I feel like a fool! :shock:

Use the distance = rate x time formula (just consider pages read as distance). We are given

200 pages = (rate) x (5 hours)

Dividing both sides by 5 hours we can solve for the current rate...

40 pages/hour = rate.

Then, twice this rate would be 80 pages/hour. We want to know how long it would take to read 100 pages at this rate, so solve the d=rt equation for time...

100 pages = (80 pages/hour)x(time)

Dividing both sides by 80 pages/hour gives us

1.25 hours = time

The last step is to convert this 1.25 hours to minutes

(1.25 hours)x(60 minutes/hour) = 75 minutes
