Was 8 one of the option. Not sure if this is correct approach.

y = 8x+a cuts x axis at (-a/8,0) and cuts y axis at (0,a)

now question says area < 1

(a/8)*(a)/2 < 1

a^2 < 16

-4<a<4

range of a 4 -(-4) = 8
