Two weeks to go suggest strategy

by gmatwar13 » Tue Nov 13, 2012 10:01 am
Hi All,

I have two weeks to go for GMAT... I am not sure what should be strategy for final two weeks.. I am currently working OG's and want to align myself more towards OG.. But I think something is not working for me.. I take test too seriously that make me hurry on latter part of the questions. I have given both the GMAT prep scores are

GMATprep1 700(Q49,V35) 10 wrong on quant.... 5 SC, 4CR, 1RC wrongs.. last 2 questions missed
GMATprep2 710(Q50,V35) 5 wrong on quant.... 8 SC, 2CR, 3RC wrong...

Problem i am not able to guess a question in Verbal... General trend is I make 5-6 mistakes in first 30 questions... and 6 errors in last 10... Because Most of the time I have like 10 minutes for last 10 questions.. end up guessing last 4-5 questions.. And what ever type of questions come under last 10 are mostly wrong that's why my incorrect ration is also random... What should be strategy... If anyone experienced this and have any remedy...

The best advice I can give you is to take less time on the verbal to get a higher percentage right over the last few questions.

Hi guys...

Gave GMAT today.. I thought i could get more but time crushed me again and got 710(Q50, V35). I found Quant very easy. Infact i finished 10 minutes before time. What i saw in quant the questions are mostly from inequalities and numbers. There were few questions which looked like DS some two line statement and then asking for answer. For quant i would suggest go through all the concept in 2 days don't take more than that.. and then start attempting questions and for DS try not to use pen and paper, it will significantly increase your thinking speed...

Verbal was similar to gmat prep. Just the problem is they add too much words into a sentence to make it look difficult... i was doing very well till 10 questions did first 10 in 18 minutes... 11th question one boldface... 14th question again a boldface question... Questions started coming difficult.. RC passage was difficult with three paragraphs.. and from 11 to 20 my timings got off track as i started getting difficult questions and i have a strong urge to do every question.. then i got 4 paragraph RC realy big at 24 when I reached Q27 I saw my clock showing 15 minutes left and 15 Questions left.... That made me panic...And now i started attempting questions very fast but to my bad luck more CR questions started coming. At Q34 again an RC came and i had 7 minutes.. i attepted it any how in 4 minutes then attempted the last 4 questions in some 2-3 minutes... I knew i have screwed verbal...But can't help... V35 was on cards...

Advice: people say first 10 questions are important agree... I would say last 10 questions are equally important.. If you don't attempt your last 10 questions properly in test don't expect an exceptional score as well... Put a strict timing so that you get adequate timing for last 10 questions. Don't have an ego with questions.

Prepare hard.. If given all time ... i used to do not more than 4 mistakes in verbal... But time is important factor which i was not able to rectify.. Get your fundamentals right... And work on your speed if it is low.. no matter how well you are prepared.. if your speed dosn't support you.. your effort wont get rewarded adequately. I have scored 750 and 770 in gmat prep1 and gmat prep2 reattempts but i got some questions repeated and which made my timings better in it and hence good score.. Keep a check on that if you know a question in test try to do the test 2 minute early.

From Experts: with 710 and indian IT male with 6 yr exp. what should be the schools i could target
If all u see are obstacles, may be it is because you have taken your eyes off the goal...
