GMAT-740 : Please help me in selecting B-schools

Hi All
I gave my GMAT a couple of days ago and got a 740. Yet to receive my AWA scores. I would like to know the B-schools where i stand a good chance of getting through. A brief overview of my background:
Education background: Engineering in Information Technology
Work Ex: 2 years and 2 months till date ( 4 months in a start-up followed by an MNC)
10th and 12th Std marks - 90%+
B.Tech- 80%+
Extra curricular- was an active member of debate club, Have done a couple of courses on project management and been associated with NGO.
Nationality/Gender- Indian/Female
I would like to know about B schools in both US and Europe and also which schools will offer me a scholarship. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, with a 740 and good grades like that you can reasonably apply anywhere. Still have to have the stories though! IF you are aiming for scholarships rather than prestige, my suggestion is to aim for schools that fit your goals/career history very well, that you are really excited about, but which you would have good+ chances. So with Tech goals I'd look at McCombs, Tepper, Georgia Tech for example.

Thanks a lot for your reply Jon. I would definitely like to give a shot to the Ivy League universities. Can you please tell me how are my chances at Stanford or MIT (because of my tech background) and also which are the other top schools where I stand a good chance (if we leave aside the scholarship part).

I think anybody would need a bit more on your profile to make an educated guess (like what are you doing at your current company, what is the scope and duration of your extra curriculars, have you won any awards/accolades, have you been promoted...)but based on what you have provided, an IT background from India is a very popular profile, and a 740 is great but the unpublished average for Indian IT is probably around that for b schools. So as of yet, I have not seen anything that you have presented which indicates you are a strong candidate for a top 10 school. That being said, you did not include the type of full info that any good admissions consultant would ask for in order to help you choose a slate of schools.

I agree with Alex that to get a full evaluation you gotta see how the rest of your history and stats stand. But as I wrote, with your numbers you have what it takes to be able to apply anywhere. Now you gotta work on the rest of the things. As to your chances at Stanford/MIT, it will certainly depend on your leadership, essays, career goals, community service etc. etc., but nobody gets an "Automatic Go" to Stanford or MIT. Whatever the case, although you are at the top of your class, so is everyone else in these schools, so let's see how we can work to make your profile SHINE.

And now the real work begins.

I agree with everybody else. :)

The tier of the undergraduate school matters more for Indian candidates due to the sheer numbers; admissions committees use these tiers to filter to an extent. So knowing your undergraduate school along with your grades would help us as well.
