Im currently preparing for the GMAT. Standard preparation and Im getting an average of about 600-630 on my practice tests. When is the ideal time for me to take up the test, because I need to book my date! Also, should I take it up in the old pattern or the new one. Very confused!

When do I take up the GMAT!
Source: Beat The GMAT — GMAT Strategy |
it depends on what ur goal is. if u want to get a score in the 600-630 range then sign up as soon as possible. if you are interested in getting a higher score then study some more and then take the test
If you hitting getting the score you are aiming for and more in your mocks then you should register for the GMAT exam.
If you think it will take you time to adjust to the new format and it may hamper your performance and confidence and then go for an early attempt. All the best!

thanks guys.. im aiming for a 700+ score.. but im not having much time to prepare currently. so.. i was thinking maybe taking the new pattern.. because the only time i can take it now is either april (which is too soon) or the new pattern!
Hello Saana,
Taking the new GMAT will give out a positive message about you.
The way i see it - It shows that you are not afraid of change and can face it headon.

Do you have any deadlines or anything? Also it depends what you think will suit you more the new or the old format. If you now have a 600 to 630 in "real" practice test (by this I mean no cheating etc) and you are scoring fro a 700+ the I guess you should wait and take the test when you have more tim to prepare, otherwise it will be tough to add a 100+ points with little time to prepare and in the end you will be unsatisfied with the result.
just my 2 cents

I think you are there but you need at least 2 months to boost it to 700+. I don't know where your weakness is the most, but I find that people struggle with verbal even after getting the strategies down, etc. I think it's more about practice and seeing the patterns than anything else.
Thanks Guys!
Sorry Ive not been online much past few weeks. Im currently doing engineering and I have no time to study. Ive decided to go ahead with the new pattern and take it around mid-June.
Verbal is still tough and Im unable to increase my score. Guess I have to practice more and more!

Actually i was still confused about the new IR section , but as it is not going to be calculated in the 200 to 800 range , i dont think much will be affected , i will suggest of purchasing the latest edition and get a clearer view , and also scoring below your expected score is not going to help you anyways .
take the exam when you are well prepared and also there is a lot of time still for the first round.
best of luck for your prep.
