Reaching a high level of fustration

by Spike142 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 2:56 pm
Ok I am not sure how to explain this. I am currently a Senior in College (Texas Tech University). I have been studying using MGMAT, OG review, Princeton Review both practice books and strategy books. I have become very comfortable with the material.

Every time I start a GMATPrep though...I freeze completely. It has become absurdly frustrating, I can hardly finish the Quant. portion and sometimes I can only get half way through(Yeah its that bad). I want a 720 I believe I have earned that score, I have put down countless hours, practiced multiple questions with a timer, and Have destroyed Flashcards!

I don't know if it is my nerves that are killing me. I get a stomach ache every time I get into a Prep test. IT KILLS ME! I have even taken a full week off to just relax. I have been studying for 3 months straight so I thought I needed one

BTG please help
Thank You!!
If your going to make the conscious decision to something, then you gotta either do it or not do it - it's as simple as that - Travis Rice

Hi Spike,

You certainly aren't the first person to have this reaction to tests. I've seen students consistently exceed their target scores on multiple GMATPrep tests only to drop 150 points on test day.

We spend a lot of time on these forums talking about how to solve questions, but we don't spend much time talking about how to focus, remain positive and control our nerves.

As far as I know, there's no perfect way to combat nerves and test anxiety. For each person, the solution will be different (meditation, visualization, therapy, etc.). If I were you, I'd start researching my options.

The good thing is that it sounds like you know the material. So once you get a handle on the emotions, you'll get that 720.

If it helps, today I posted an article about maintaining a positive attitude. Perhaps it'll help. https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2011/04/ ... n-the-gmat

Cheers,
