Hello all,
I am pretty new to this site...as you can imagine, I am overwhelmed. Too many question to be answered....where do I start....Need help!!!

Briefly looked over Eric's 80 day strategy...Looks like, Eric followed Kaplan & Princeton...

First, prep courses are too expensive, are they worth? I am out of college 10 years ago....YEAH! you can say I'm oooold. I was about to apply for MGMAT's online course (my state does not have in-person classes from MGMAT)...but I thought, it's better to self study first to see where I lack. Is that a good idea?

Secondly, Here is my dilemma....from the review at least, it seems like MGMAT books are better. However, these books are the most expensive ones. The whole set of books (along with OGs) are about $224 bucks, where as Princeton's Cracking the GMAT and Kaplan's GMAT Advanced 2009-2010 are at fraction of the cost. Additionally, reviews are not that good. Any advice what to choose from?

I am planning to take the GMAT in couple months...yeah, I don't have time. Adding to the equation, a full time job and a family (w/ two little kids) to attend to.

I just joined a study group locally with another three people, but seems like these guys have books already, some have Kaplan, some have Princeton and other books...I got a feeling that they are not interested in MGMAT books because of huge expense. I am unsure, what kind of a study group it would be, if eveyone decides to study their own books! In any event, my intention to follow the best books and advice the study group as well.

You guys seem like pretty active in the forum...I will stick around for sometime for your review.

Appreciate your help.
Nimma

I think if you buy the Manhattan bundle you can get them all for like 115. Go to amazon to see. I would say try to go to the library and see if you can check out a Princeton Review or Kaplan book before you buy one. It really depends on what score you need. If you only need a 600 or so, then you don't necessarily need the Manhattan books. If you want a 700 plus, you probably need the Manhattan books. What type of score do you need?

Thanks Osirus for replying....

I have many of years of exp (I believe thats a plus)
Also have progressional responsibilities in my career (which is a Plus, I think)
on the negative side, I could have done a whole lot better in my Engineering (I hated the college, totally different than my personality, although passed in first class)...because of that, I feel like going to top B school to fulfill my dream...for that I believe I need 700+, not sure if that can be little lower because of my experience.

So, MGMAT then?

If you need a 700 plus, I don't see how you can get that without the Manhattan GMAT guides. They were absolutely vital for my GMAT prep. I would recommend powerscore for verbal though if you just want to use books. If you want a class Veritas has an amazing verbal only class that you could look into.

For that elusive 700+ mark this is what i would suggest :

Quant books
:

(a) 5 Quant mgmat guides
(b) MGMAT Math Foundations

Verbal books :

(a) Powerscore LSAT/GMAT CR Bible
(b) Powerscore LSAT Reading Comprehension
(c) Manhattan SC
(d) Doing Grammar - Highly Recommended

Additional Practice Questions :

(a) OG 12
(b) Verbal OG
(c) Quant OG
(d) Princeton Review 1012

Simulated Practice GMAT Tests
:

(a) mba.com
(b) mgmat
(c) princeton review
(d)veritas

Hope this helps : )
