Finally over

by aninditasivaram2406 » Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:19 pm
Hi guys,

Just finished taking my GMAT yesterday and scored a 690 (Q 48, V37). I know its not a very good score compared to the scores I got to see on BTG. But i am happy with it. Wanted to thank the forum and the awesome work everyone here is doing. I discovered the benefits of the forum a little late into my preparation but still greatly benefitted from it. Whenever I got stuck in any problem, all I had to do is post it here...and someone would definitely answer it.

Study Mat - Did the OG11 twice. Did the Kaplan book and the Princeton Review. In addition to these, did some math practice from any free stuff I could find on the net.

Just a brief recap on the test - The math section was super duper easy. I cant believe how easy it was..seriously..after the Kaplan and Princeton practices as well the standard of sums on this forum, I was pleasantly surprised. But because the stuff was so easy, I kept rechecking my answers :( A big mistake. I cant believe I ran out of time in the latter part of the quant section and had to guess some answers. I always had extra time when I did the practice tests, and to think that I ran out of time on the D-Day!!

Verbal was never my strong point and proved to be the same here. So no comments on that one.

Thanks to everyone again!! I plan to hang around and answer any math queries on the forum (and no verbal ones! )[/u]

Just to clarify this request--please do not disclose specific questions here! Don't want to get you or this community in trouble. ;)

Thank you everyone! Feels so good to share the joy of a good score...
I did get some similar questions from the OG 11 and GMAT prep..make sure u make the OG ur bible...its really really helpful...and i think u dont really need more than 2 months of serious studying...i just studied for 2 months....however i am not working rt now...so had all day to study...

Do and donts (to answer ajaypatil_am)
Definitely do the OG11 and OG 10 if u can lay ur hands on it...twice would be good
Do identify ur weak areas..mine was probabilty...just did not understand it(did not get any in the test though  )...
Do the Princeton Review...a good book for quant specially.have some good techniques
Do learn the specific GMAT english rules...they are v helpful..specially the idiom list and the GMAT preferred terms.

Don'ts
I don't know whether my quant was too easy compared to all GMAT tests..but I feel that doing too difficult problems is just a waste of time...GMAT tests more on faster and smarter ways to do sums than very long tedious calculations...that is my insight from the test...
Don't ignore english too much! I was partial towards quant...found verbal too boring...
Don't get stressed out during the exam...thats really the most important part about the exam...keeping your cool...

and don't worry...2 months of serious studying is v adequate...u actually donot need more..i was quite fed up with my studying by the end of it...

I had made a quick verbal reference document...am uploading it here...its a very basic checklist for GMAT English...hope it helps!

Good luck! and pls let me know if u want anymore input...cheers!
