Dear gmat4babu,

Assuming you score as expected on the GMAT, I think you have the foundation for a competitive application. What is critical for any weekend/evening program is to show a successful track record in your career, with demonstrated advancement, leadership and teamwork experiences. It is also important to present a strong rationale for why you want a MBA, why now, and why Haas as well as how your background plus a MBA are needed for your future career goals.

Good luck,
Lisa

Lisa,

Thanks again for your response! I wrote GMAT yesterday and scored 690 (Q50, V32). I would like to apply for 2009 fall (deadline March 6th). Would like to get your opinion whether I should re-take GMAT or not.

By the way, I forgot to mention, yesterday I took GMAT for the second time. I had taken GMAT first time in last February and scored 610 (Q47 V27).

I do believe that I can score between 720-740 if take it 3rd time.

Dear gmat4babu,

Congratulations on your new GMAT score! If you want to get your application in soon (which I would recommend), I'm not sure you have time to take the test again. Also, I'm not sure increasing your score is worth the trade off in getting your application in later and perhaps with less focus on your essays. So I think you need to weigh the risk of delaying your application against the benefit of maybe a 20-30 point increase. If I were you, I think I would apply with the 690 and see what happens. But you need to choose whichever path you are more comfortable with.

Good luck,
Lisa

Dear Ruchi,

I suggest you contact ISB to determine what the concerns are on your application. Then you will know what you need to address when you re-apply in the next cycle.

As for other schools, you might consider retaking the GMAT to get your score up 20-30 points. While a 690 is a strong score, your profile makes up a large percentage of the global applicant pool and many of them have the same degree/work experience but a GMAT >700. You should also make sure you are highlighting the right aspects of your work experience and conveying a solid rationale for why you want a MBA.

Good luck,
Lisa
