is x - y > x + y?

Hi,

I got this in GMAT prep2

If x - y > 10, is x - y > x + y?

(1) x = 8
(2) y = -20

I got it as (A), but it seems to be wrong. Can any one help in this. Thanks.

I would go with D

Simplify the question Is x-y>x+y?


x-y>x+y
-2y>0
y<0 (dividing by -2 above on both sides so inequality reverses)

or Is y < 0

Stmt II

y = -20

SUFF

Stmt I

x=8

If x-y>10 and x=8 y must be negative

SUFF
